One of the well-known parks in Tanzania that harbors both marine and terrestrial habitats is the “Mafia Island Marine Park.” Mafia Island is part of the Tanzanian Zanzibar Archipelago and is renowned for its diverse marine life and beautiful beaches.
Mafia Island Marine Park: Mafia Island Marine Park is situated in the Indian Ocean, about 25 kilometers off the Rufiji River Delta. It encompasses the southern part of Mafia Island and several smaller islets. The marine park was established to protect the rich marine ecosystem, including coral reefs, seagrass beds, and various species of fish and other marine life.

02WHEN TO VISIT? The optimal time to visit Saadani National Park is during the driest months, notably February and July, when temperatures peak at around 29°C. The dry season is highly recommended for visits, although the park retains its allure throughout the year.
03GETTING THERE: To reach Saadani National Park, you have two main options:
By Air:
Charter flights are available from various major towns such as Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Tanga, Arusha, and others. These flights will land at either Saadani Airstrip in the South or Mkwaja Airstrip in the North, ensuring access to the park throughout the year.
By Road:
From Dar es Salaam: The distance is 131km via Bagamoyo, taking the Makurunge route to Gama Entrance Gate.
From Tanga: Covering a distance of 146km, you'll go via Pangani and Mkwaja to Madete Entrance Gate.
From Dar es Salaam (alternative route): A 225km route is available off Chalinze and Mandera junction via Miono to Mvave Entrance Gate.
From Arusha – Dar es Salaam road: Take the Mkata Junction route via Kwamsisi to Madete Entrance Gate, covering a distance of 79km from Mkata to Madete.
